About Liza Rodriguez

Former Presiding Judge of County Court at Law #8 and the Bexar County DWI Court

Judge Rodriguez was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. She is a graduate of the University of North Texas and St. Mary’s University School of Law. Prior to being elected to office in November of 2010, she worked as a Bexar County Assistant District Attorney for ten years and has also served as the County Courts Administrator. With nineteen years of legal experience, she is currently in private practice with a focus on Criminal Defense.

Her proudest accomplishment thus far, aside from being a mother of two, is having been instrumental in the establishment of the first designated DWI Court in Bexar County. In August of 2012, Judge Rodriguez was honored in Washington D.C. with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Distinguished Alumnus Award and has been featured on San Antonio’s “Rising Stars” radio program. She is a member of the Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, serves as a board member for the Mexican American Bar Association of San Antonio and looks forward to continuing her career in public service.

The Fourth Court of Appeals

The Fourth Court of Appeals hears cases appealed from the lower courts of thirty-two counties. The court hears both civil and criminal matters. Because the Texas Supreme Court limits the number of cases it considers, the Fourth Court is the 'Court of Last Resort' for most cases appealed from South Texas to the Hill Country.

Seven Justices sit on Fourth Court of Appeals. Liza Rodriguez is a candidate for Place 5, which is being vacated by Justice Karen Angelini. Liza Rodriguez will be the only Justice on the court with experience as a criminal prosecutor, defense attorney, and criminal court judge.
